3 Reasons Not to Be Afraid of Silk
Our love for silk knows no bounds. In fact, when Sakura Bloom first launched in 2006, all of the slings were crafted of silk (the Essential and Artisan collections) and each and every one was sewn by Lynne herself. So needless to say, silk is our original love. So much so, we’ve expanded our silk offerings and now have three amazing collections - Simple, Maven, and Covet. As we celebrate moving into warmer seasons, we thought it was time to share a little bit about this stunning textile and some common misconceptions surrounding it. So if you’ve been feeling hesitant or haven’t taken the plunge yet, here are some of our favorite reasons you shouldn’t be scared of silk!
It breaks in beautifully
You may hear the word “crunchy” thrown around when talking about silk, but don’t let that deter you. With a quick vinegar dip (a little white vinegar + cold water in your sink), a good steam with your iron on the hottest setting, and daily wear, you can break in your silk quickly and easily. Broken in silk is one of the dreamiest fabrics you can wrap around your baby. It offers rock solid support, but is floppy and soft to the touch. Before you know it, it will be your favorite carrier you reach for time and time again.
It’s easy to care for
If you’ve ever owned anything made of silk in the past, you may be concerned about high maintenance care. No need to worry! All of our slings, including our silks, are machine washable. Hop over to our Care page for our more detailed written instructions.
It’s made just for you
On the other hand, if you love the feel and support of our Simple silk collections, but don’t love the shine, Maven might be more your cup of tea. There really is an silk for everyone! Whether you’re looking for a single layer, a double layer, shiny or matte, our three Silk collections provide the custom options you’re looking for in a carrier to last you from those very first days with your baby all the way through toddlerhood.
Silk is our favorite recommendation for toddlers, for summer, and for anyone looking for that one sling to take them from the newborn days through the toddler years. It is incredibly lightweight, supportive and breathable. Silk's rock solid support, ability to dry quickly and low profile packability make it the perfect carrier for any adventure.
