The Common Thread. A Sakura Bloom photo documentary celebrating the commonalities that we share through the capture of what makes us unique.

 Mary and Family

We are excited to introduce @marizabeth today in our feature:

Name: Mary (& Ted) DeMarco-Logue

Kids + Ages: Ruby Dawn, 3 years; Sylas Fox, 5 months

Where you live: Bryans Road, MD (Washington, DC suburbs)

What is unique about the wall you're standing in front of: This mirrored wall is one of the more iconic exterior features of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. It's possibly my favorite art venue of all time. Ted took me here for our first Valentine's Day a decade ago, because they had the last remaining chemical process photobooth in our immediate area... & it was broken. We took some selfies in it that I edited into a film strip with Photoshop instead. What we love about this place is that all the art was created by self-taught artists, so they have a freedom & a life to them that is not always present in art produced by those who were taught technique. While we appreciate all art, the wildness & playfulness & raw emotion in the works here are so very captivating - & inspiring for my own art.

I spend 90% of my time breastfeeding Sylas  & doing food prep for Rue and 10% of my time making dollies, teethers, doodles & more for @scribblesinstitches.

The strangest thing I ever discovered in the bottom of my sling was: a carefully curated collection of twigs.

When I'm celebrating, you'll find me eating: fries and drinking: coffee - I am ALWAYS drinking coffee. Sometimes with whiskey!

If I could have any superpower, it would be: to walk past a napping kid without finding a squeaky floorboard - every single time.

Making pancakes on the weekend, I'm listening to Wintergatan!

If I got pulled over for speeding, I'd most likely be listening to the Chemical Brothers.

If I could spend a month making the world a better place, I'd: travel; get to know artisans around the world & photograph them. I'd make a platform for people to find those artists, learn about their lives & their culture, & support them first-hand.

The most inspiring Instagram feed to follow is: there are so many! I have been very inspired by @ekwetzel/@ekwetzelart lately; she has a beautiful aesthetic & honest voice that resonates with me.

My top tip for a new parent: This gig is hard, there is no "clocking out," & everyone has a different opinion on how to "do it right." It's easy to be discouraged, but I have found that doing my best & forgiving my worst has made a happier path for us all.

My favorite book recommendation: anything by Charles de Lint! Everything he pens is pure magic.

If I could only have one Sakura Bloom on a desert island, I'd have: Bluegrass because it picks up the green in my eyes & the blues in my husband & babies' eyes. It's the color of our familial soul!

If you get me talking about stop-motion animation, you might as well cancel the rest of your day.

The name of my memoir would be: This Book is Writ in the Sarcasm Font

The top item on my bucket list is: A cross-country trip in a mobile home or converted trailer- meeting up with all the friends I've made on IG!

If I could go anywhere in the world for a week, I'd choose: Germany. I'd love to see where I was born. Or maybe Ireland. Or India...

Very enjoyable! Of course I’m biased since I’m the respondent’s mom!
