The Common Thread. A Sakura Bloom photo documentary celebrating the commonalities that we share through the capture of what makes us unique.
We are excited to introduce @emilyrichett today, as photographed by @amycarrollphotography.
Name: Emily Richett
Kids + Ages: Jane (2 years) Josie (6 weeks)
Where you live: Grand Rapids, MI
What is unique about the wall you're standing in front of: This is a map of our city. We actually have a ton of fun walls throughout Grand Rapids, partially thanks to an annual event called @Artprize that turns the city into a public art exhibit.
I spend 90% of my time riding the crazy roller coaster that is business + motherhood and 10% of my time trying to hop off it to catch a nap.
The strangest thing I ever discovered in the bottom of my sling bag/purse was: a pine comb. my daughter loves to collect them on our walks.
When I'm celebrating, you'll find me eating: tacos and drinking: champagne
If I could have any superpower, it would be: perfect memory. not only would I never have another awkward run-in with someone whose name i can't remember, but I'd also never forget every precious and even not-so-precious moment of new motherhood and marriage. I want to remember it all!
Making pancakes on the weekend, I'm listening to: If I had my choice, something chill & moody like Birdy or Bon Ivor. In reality, it's Mother Goose Club
If I got pulled over for speeding, I'd most likely be listening to: anything I can sing along to.
If I could spend a month making the world a better place, I'd: do whatever I possibly could to love on and nurture babies that don't have anyone. Becoming a mom has made me ultra sensitive about the children in this world who do not know the love of a mother, a warm embrace, a full belly and parents that absolutely adore them.
The most inspiring Instagram feed to follow is: @livesweetphotography I don't even know if she's a real person-- beautiful babies, piglets, bunnies and never a drop of poo in any photos!
My top tip for a new parent: trust your instincts.
My favorite book recommendation: Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist
If I could only have one Sakura Bloom on a desert island, I'd have: my orchid. It was my first sling so it's perfectly broken in and has carried my daughter and I through so many firsts from our first flight to first visit to the ocean... and I'm pretty confident it would make our first time on a deserted island more pleasant as well.
If you get me talking about: animal welfare you might as well cancel the rest of your day.
The name of my memoir would be: So Sorry I'm Just Now Texting You Back: The Motherhood Memoir of Emily
The top item on my bucket list is: building my dream business
If I could go anywhere in the world for a week, I'd choose: anywhere outside of North America! I can't wait to adventure beyond our tiny corner of the universe and to explore the world with my family.
