The Common Thread. A Sakura Bloom photo documentary celebrating the commonalities that we share through the capture of what makes us unique.
We are excited today to introduce @fosteringawareness, Maura Macfeat
Name: Maura (@fosteringawareness)
Kids + Ages: Baby E (7 months), Moses (5), Brianna (6), William (10)
Where you live: Thousand Oaks, CA
What is unique about the wall you're standing in front of: It was pretty and simple. We live in the 'burbs so finding a wall that isn't the side of someone's house was tricky. This is outside of great little yoga studio in our town.
I spend 90% of my time doing mom stuff and 10% of my time split between working in my pottery studio and taking pictures.
The strangest thing I ever discovered in the bottom of my purse was: a live caterpillar. Moses found a friend and wanted to bring him home but forgot to tell me!
When I'm celebrating, you'll find me eating: sushi and drinking: ginger ale
If I could have any superpower, it would be: flight especially when dealing with LA traffic. It would come in pretty handy around here.
Making pancakes on the weekend, I'm listening to: Stevie Wonder. something from Songs in the Key of Life
If I got pulled over for speeding, I'd most likely be listening to: Bob Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues, although my lead foot is a thing of the past. I find driving a minivan slows me down a bit.
If I could spend a month making the world a better place, I'd: I have dreams about sharing my love of babywearing with birth and foster families to help formulate strong attached bonds between children in foster care and their caregivers. That's more of a long term thing then a quick fix though.
The most inspiring Instagram feed to follow is: @fostermoms
My top tip for a new parent: let go of all the stuff you thought parenting would be and embrace the moments as they come. Follow your instincts. Always comfort your baby. There are going to be some really freaking hard days but just when you need them some really amazing moments that keep you going.
My favorite book recommendation:The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran will always be a favorite of mine.
If I could only have one Sakura Bloom on a desert island, I'd have: Shabd Triangles - I love the lightweight feel of single layers and in my book it doesn't get much better than the simple beauty of Triangles.
If you get me talking about foster care you might as well cancel the rest of your day.
The name of my memoir would be: Fostering Awareness... although it wouldn't be writen by me because writing has never really been my thing.
The top item on my bucket list is: take a nap under giant redwoods
If I could go anywhere in the world for a week, I'd choose: Paris.
Thank you so much for joining us for The Common Thread Maura!
